New members are very welcome at our fortnightly meetings, which are held at 7.30p.m. in the church foyer. What does the season 2019/20 hold for us? We started again on Thursday, 12th September, and on 26th September the Group help Macmillan Cancer Care’s Biggest Coffee Morning event by holding a Coffee Evening (!) in the foyer. The support was excellent and we managed to send off £134 to Macmillan, which was a brilliant result. Thank you to everyone who helped to raise this amount - the charity is one that is close to the heart of several within our congregation and we know the amazing work that is carried out by these specialist nurses. 10th October, in Hospice Care Week, we had a visit from the Community Fundraiser of East Cheshire Hospice, giving us an update on their work, and in addition we welcomed Debbie Callow, their Admiral Nurse. This is a new role which is enabling the Hospice to reach out to those with Dementia, and their Carers, giving them each respite, training, support and assistance; it sounds a wonderful extension to the existing work of the Hospice, and we were glad to support this development. 24th October saw us turn our minds to recycling, waste management, perhaps upcycling too! We very much enjoyed a talk by a representative of ANSA, under the wider umbrella of Cheshire East Council. 7th November was another interesting evening when we welcomed back our good friend, John Wallace, he continued to enlighten us further on the American Spitfire Pilot. A really good evening. Our next meeting moved to 28th November as the 21st was the Christmas Lights Switch On. We then welcomed Anne to talk to us about her Collection of Butterflies. The final meeting before Christmas was on 5th December, when members had time to visit the Journey Into Light Art Exhibition being hosted at the Church.

Heading into 2020, our first meeting of the New Year was an easing back after the busyness of the Christmas Season, but we followed it on the 30th January with a superb evening of slides entitled Ten Glimpses of Old Wilmslow. Ray Acton never fails to present his slides in a most interesting and informative way, and we much enjoyed him once again.

We are aware of the fundraising being undertaken to enable The Christie Hospital to build a new satellite project at Macclesfield, so our 13th Februaryevening was a fundraiser for that important cause. The Cheshire Community Choir gave us an excellent evening, filledwith fun, great singing, and a generally happy time. We were absolutely overwhelmed to realise that we were able to send £415.50p to the Christie as a result of the event. A huge well done to everyone to helped to raise that wonderful total.

Thursday, 27th February saw Christine Munro visiting Thursday Group to tell us of the work of Alderley Edge in Bloom; we know how hard they work across the community to encourage our Village to look so attractive during the summer months, and we much enjoyed hearing of their plans in 2020.
