Hope 2020....................Prayer 20:20

by Judy Povey  |  Posted at 23:03pm on 20th March 2020

On FRIDAY, 20th MARCH 2020 at 20:20 we

had hoped to meet in the Foyer, but

under the present restrictions because

of Corona Virus we invite you instead to

share together in prayer from the

comfort of your own home.

As we proceed through these difficult days towards health and healing

As we proceed through the period of Lent towards Easter and the triumph of new life over death:

Pray for your family and friends

Pray for the ongoing life of our church

Pray for the life of the church throughout the world

Give thanks  for what today has made you feel grateful

Examine what today you have found difficult or challenging.

Say sorry if today you have been uncaring or critical

Ask today that God will  lead you to a brighter tomorrow

In these difficult days pray that Christ will be our light and that it will shine through

the darkness.

The following prayers may help to bring your thoughts together as we conclude  our 20 minutes of prayer - each in our own homes maybe, but hopefully in quiet reflection one with another; may you sense a feeling of togetherness as we pray as a church family of friends, in isolation but yet as one:

God of all hope we call on you today.
We pray for those who are living in fear:
Fear of illness, fear for loved ones, fear of other’s reactions to them.
May your Spirit give us a sense of calmness and peace.

We pray for your church in this time of uncertainty..
For those needing to make decisions in order to care for others
For those who will feel more isolated by not being able to attend.
Grant us your wisdom.

Holy God, we remember that you have promised that
Nothing will separate us from your love – demonstrated to us in Jesus Christ.
Help us turn our eyes, hearts and minds to you.

Amen

 .

Loving God, In your very being you exist in relationship, living in service and love with yourself, and with us. In reflection of this you call us into community, that in knowing one another, listening to one another, and serving one another, we might encounter you. Through the life and ministry of Jesus Christ When you encountered a hungry crowd, or a family in need of healing, or a group isolated from society, you responded with action, feeding, resurrecting, welcoming. Open our eyes to the needs of those around us, especially as we encounter new challenges. Help us to turn to one another in love, responding in action, in service of your hope. Amen.

Please be aware that all church services have been put on hold for the time being and therefore Alderley Edge Methodist Church joins with others in that for the coming weeks there will be no Sunday Worship. The church buildings may be closed, but the body of the church is very much active, and we must endeavour to find new ways of connecting with each other, being of service, and reaching out to all in love and hope.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”  2 Timothy 1:7
