Concerts Under the Spire - Saturday Coffee Concerts and Wednesday Lunchtime Concerts

by Alderley Edge Methodist Church  |  Posted at 15:40pm on 5th September 2022

As from now onwards the monthly Coffee Concerts have moved to the First Saturday and the time has also moved to 11.00a.m. – so it was wonderful to see a very good audience joining the Church's regular Saturday Coffee Morning for coffee and toasted teacakes/biscuits ahead of the First Concert on the 3rd Sptember. We were anticipating the programme would be presented by Rose McLachlan, who has enjoyed a wonderful and highly successful summer in the USA, and in the UK, but with just a few days to go we heard that Rose was unable to play - she had been given an unexpected opportunity to perform in Leeds. However, her Father, Murray McLachlan, and her two brothers, Callum and Matthew, were with us instead. What an absolute treat and a privilege we were able to enjoy  as our first event in the series, it was just wonderful.

At the end of the morning everyone was buzzing, and  we have just heard that Rose is able to be with us this Saturday, 1st October, along with pianist Kathyn Page, and  there is no doubt, this will be an equal privilege. We look forward to welcoming a good audience on that occasion also .

The Chopin Programme for Saturday Is as follows

Contre Danse (Kathryn)

Trois Ecossaises

Waltz op. 34 no. 1 and Ballade no. 3 (Rose)

Wiosna (Kathryn)

Sostenuto (Kathryn)

Cantabile in E flat (Kathryn)

Nocturne op. 62 no. 1 and Studies op. 10 no. 4,5,8,10 (Rose)

Mazurka in F minor op. 68 no. 4 (Kathryn)

Ballade no. 4 (Rose)

(What a treat lies in store for us)

The second date in our Music Calendar is Wednesday, 19th October, when we continue our 2022/2023 Lunchtime  Concert Series at 1.00p.m. We are returning to the original format of making light lunches available from  12 mid-day, which, with Covid restrictions now lifted, we feel able to do. The Concert itself is £7, with a sandwich and cake lunch at an addtional charge.

The programme on this occasion, and in complete contrast, which we are delighted to include in our Series, the programme will feature Students from Alderley Edge School for Girls. We look forward to welcoming the girls – it is so good to be able to hear young people such as these, gifted and talented each in their own way.

We look forward to having a good audience with us on the 19th..
